New rules implemented for UK operators in Denmark

The Danish Gaming Authority Spillemyndigheden has released a set of new rules relating to UK operators in Denmark. They have noted that these operators will face different rules of operations once the UK has left the EU as a result of Brexit.

According to Spillemyndigheden’s new guidance, all operators who are based outside of the European Union should appoint a representative in order to be able to keep offering online gambling products to the Danish market. This includes all operators in the UK once Brexit officially concludes on 1 January 2021. The resident must either be within Denmark or in another EU country in order to be accepted by the Danish Gaming Authority.

The latest update is a reminder to any operators who might not already have a representative in Denmark as the year comes to an end. Only a few weeks remain until this new rule is implemented, hence operators should be willing to make a change instantly in order to protect their operations in Denmark.

The Spillemyndigheden has released the guidance in full on its website. Restrictions have been tightening in Denmark and this has resulted in the gambling revenue falling by 5% year-on-year. Brexit will impact the gambling industry in lots of different ways, this is only the start. Operators and affiliates must understand and come to terms with any new rules implemented by EU countries in order to protect their business once the transitional period is over in January.
