Michael Owen breaks UK laws for promoting Punt Casino
Michael Owen – English ex professional football player – promoted an unauthorized cryptocurrency casino, and by that he broke the UK laws.
Joey D’Urso tells that Owen promoted Punt Casino by tweeting, which doesn’t own a license to operate across the United Kingdom.
Punt Casino stated that they have a license in Curaçao, and they operate under the laws of that region. They also added that they never target consumers from countries in which they are not authorized.
In accordance with regulators in the UK, brands without local license are not allowed to be promoted to UK consumers.
M. Owen is a popular and influential football player around sport lovers, and this is the reason for The Athletic to start investigating this situation.
As a result of the investigation the tweet was deleted and Punt Casino’s webpages were blocked in the UK.
Lately the ex-footballer was again in the center of attention for promoting the NFT project in his tweet.
It is known that the Advertising Standards Authority reached out to Owen forcing him to delete both of these tweets as they break the guidelines.
