YouTube implements tighter policy on gambling content

YouTube is tightening its policy on gambling-related content in response to the growing popularity of online sports betting and prediction markets in the U.S.
On Tuesday, March 4, YouTube officially announced the update to its already existing policy, which prohibits linking to gambling sites. Since March 19, any content including links, images, logos, or verbal mentions of illegal gambling websites will be banned from the platform.
Additionally, YouTube will now begin age-restricting content that promotes online casinos, ensuring that users under 18, or those not logged into their accounts, won’t be able to view these types of videos.
YouTube spokesperson Boot Bullwinkle told CNN:
“We’ve strengthened our policies that prohibit content directing viewers to unapproved gambling websites or applications. We will also begin age-restricting content that promotes online casinos.”
Using YouTube to target vulnerable groups and attract them to gambling has deeper roots. Back in November 2024, Brazil targeted deceptive gambling advertisements on YouTube in order to provide a safer gambling environment in the country.
Now, under this new update, all the content with a win or recovery promise will be removed even from the licensed and legal sites’ side. The new policy will take effect on March 19, aiming to combat misinformation and harmful content.
