Danish gambling regulator gains enhanced enforcement powers
When it comes to violations of the country’s gambling regulations, Spillemyndigheden, the Danish gambling regulator now has more power.
The additional measures provided by the government, which went into effect on Monday, include the ability to issue an order and/or reprimand if a breach is discovered.
If the licensee fails to comply or does not meet the timeframe for fixing the issue, they may be reported to the police or have their license revoked.
The new authority is an improvement over the previous one, when Spillemyndigheden could simply notify the license holder or notify the police in the event that it discovered a violation.
The regulator must now publicize court orders that result in a guilty or partial verdict, as well as fines given for breaches discovered after July 1. These must be published on the regulator’s website for five years.
