Global Service to combat sports betting fraud and manipulation

The Global Gambling Market Research Service seeks to stop and prevent manipulation of these kinds of tournaments as well as fraud in the sports betting industry.

For the service to be effective, those players who are most motivated to end actions that compromise sportsmanship and undermine the fair play and equity that this activity stands for must adhere to it. The National Police, the Civil Guard, the Ertzaintza, the Professional Football League, the Royal Spanish Football Federation, the Higher Sports Council, and the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation are among the organizations that have joined the Service thus far.

For this reason, the Directorate-General for Game Management has adopted Resolution of June 28, 2024, approving the accession of the gambling operators holding unique licenses of horse betting in any of its modalities to the global research service of the betting market, in accordance with the provisions of the ninth additional provision of Law 13/2011 of May 27 on the regulation of the game.

Operators are required by this Resolution to report any irregular or suspicious sports betting as soon as they become aware of a practice that may be fraudulent in nature. They also have to comply with the requirements regarding the amount of information deemed necessary in relation to alerts placed in the Service.

By passing this resolution, the General Directorate of Gambling Management demonstrates its continued dedication to combating corruption associated with the manipulation of sporting events and the fraud that frequently results from placing bets on them.
