GambleAware reveals public support for financial risk checks

A new GambleAware report has revealed public support for financial risk assessments to safeguard gamblers from problematic behaviors.

The charity’s latest report has revealed that the majority of adults in the United Kingdom support various financial risk assessments that aim to protect gambling enthusiasts from problematic behaviors, with 3 in 5 surveyed people supporting the implementation of such checks. Additionally, the charity reported that many of those affected by the problematic behaviors of closely related people are likely to support the implementation of financial risk assessments as well.

More than 75% of the survey’s respondents believed that the implementation of the checks would shift a portion of the responsibility of preventing gambling harms onto operators, alleviating some of the responsibility from gambling enthusiasts. Close to two-thirds of respondents, on the other hand, believed that financial risk assessments are also likely to reduce the prevalence of various financial harms across the country.

Following the publication of these results, GambleAware has urged the government of the UK to implement reliable financial risk assessments as part of its efforts to prevent gambling harms, stating that these checks need to be prioritized and that any delays in their implementation are likely to cause further harms to gambling enthusiasts.
