KSA cracks down illegal gambling sites

Hosting provider DigitalOcean has received a legally binding designation from the Dutch Gaming Authority, or Kansspelautoriteit.

The inability to locate the owners of these affiliate websites is the basis for the KSA’s action. DigitalOcean, the hosting company, has been held liable and directed to cease serving these unlawful websites since it allows them to be accessed in the Netherlands. Due to this categorization, DigitalOcean must stop providing services to illegal affiliate websites that target to players in the Netherlands. Users are redirected to unlicensed gambling providers by these affiliate websites, which is against the law in the Netherlands.

In particular, it was found that two websites—casino zonderregistratie.net and nieuw-casinos.net—were pushing illicit gambling deals. Both running games of chance and encouraging such activities without the necessary licenses are forbidden in the Netherlands.

The KSA uses a number of tactics to stop these illicit businesses, including limiting access to internet service providers and payment processors. The KSA intends to make it harder for illicit gambling services to function and possibly put an end to them completely by cutting off these middlemen from illegal gambling providers.

After being designated, DigitalOcean has four weeks to stop providing services to these illicit affiliates. Failing to comply may result in additional punishment from the Ksa, including fines or other penalties.
