800 Chinese citizens involved in online gambling and telecom fraud repatriated from Myanmar in a collaborative law enforcement effort.

According to a statement made by China’s Ministry of Public Security, approximately 800 Chinese citizens who were involved in online gambling and telecom fraud have been returned to their native country of Myanmar.

In a press statement, the ministry noted that the repatriation was the result of a year-long collaborative operation by law enforcement agencies from China, Thailand, and Myanmar to reduce online gambling and international telecom fraud.

As per the official news agency Xinhua, the ministry has declared its intention to enhance collaboration with international law enforcement organizations and persist in its aggressive endeavor against transnational offenders. A specific cooperative operation targeted at fighting gaming, fraud, human trafficking, abduction, and unlawful detention was initiated last August by China, Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos as part of an ongoing effort to tackle crimes connected to gambling.

Earlier this year, Chinese public security officials received information from Myanmar police about four major criminal suspects and six alleged key actors in a cyber scam fraud ring.
