Qatar allegedly bribed its way to a winning World Cup start
Reports are circulating all over the internet that Qatar has bribed a number of Ecuadorian players over 7 million dollars to lose the opening match of the upcoming World Cup.
The upcoming World Cup has had a less-than-stellar reputation since the day it was announced to be hosted by Qatar. The tournament has been scarred with numerous controversies surrounding the abominable human rights and corruption records of the country. Additionally, Qatar was accused of paying its way into its hosting position, further marring the reputation of the event and its organizer, FIFA.
The saga of controversies continues, with this latest one accusing the country of paying its way to a winning opening match. On the 20th of November, Qatar and Ecuador are going to kickstart the long-awaited tournament, and the former seems to be quite worried of the bad image it would be faced with if it lost the inaugural match. Reportedly, Qatar is worried enough to bribe 8 of its competitor’s players over 7 million dollars to make sure it gets the win.
Neither the sports organization nor any officials from the country’s government have denied any of the accusations yet at the time of writing.
