Spelinspektionen, a wagering regulator based in Sweden, sanctioned Betway with a fine of SEK 100,000 because of illicit bonus suggestions.

The regulator conducted an investigation in Betway, as on June 10 this year it launched a marketing campaign which enabled users to use 200% match bonus more than once.

After several days, Betway informed Spelinspektionen that a marketing incident had taken place. The information stated that the gambling company started a campaign for a 200% match bonus in the management system of its administration office.

The company stated that the campaign aimed to distribute users registered in smaller trademarks, but by mistake it was enabled for all the users in the database. From 11 am to 2pm on June 10, a sum of 53 bonuses got credited to 52 users because of the mistake.

Betway assured that no user suffered from financial harm and the company had been actively informing users about the mistake by sending emails.Betway

The regulator mentioned that the company had seriously violated its obligations but they also ensured that it occurred because of a mistake and tried to minimize the harm.

Spelinspektionen also stated that the gambling operator had launched serious measures to prevent such mistakes occurring again. The regulator assured that some factors mitigate the case, as the breach lasted not long and Betway had responded immediately after being aware of the incident.

As a result, the violation is considered to be less serious and a remark is believed to be enough interference. The remark involves a penalty fee of SEK 100,000.
