Samaritans suggests steps for suicide prevention in gambling industry

Samaritans, the UK charity for emotional and suicide support, has released new steps in suicide prevention which it has included in its first best practice guidance made for the iGaming industry.

The charity did some research via many different consultations with fitting stakeholders, as well as with people who have experiences in the matter and some health experts in the gambling scene.

Some of its recommendations included setting a targeted suicide prevention policy in order to protect staff and clients, ways on how to properly communicate with customers who need it, how to use data to prevent suicide and more…

Mubeen Bhutta, head of policy for the Samaritans, remarked:

“Suicide is preventable and we know different industries need to address specific challenges in order to have effective suicide prevention practices in place. With a clear association between gambling and suicide, identifying the changes needed in the gambling environment to prevent suicide is a vital part of our work. We’re proud to publish these industry guidelines and look forward to seeing all gambling businesses engage with them in a proactive effort to do more to prevent gambling-related suicide.”
