Veikkaus begins use of ID verification for slots

Veikkaus, the Finnish gambling monopoly, has decided to go forth and proceed with the implementation of mandatory ID verification for slots. They had previously promised they would roll out this feature towards the end of January, but they have now officially announced the start date as being 12 January 2021.

This most recent news from Veikkaus comes after their pilot programme for account-based play began back in September. The ID verification rule will only be applied to devices that are hosted in third party locations. With what concerns slot arcades that are owned by Veikkaus, account-based play will be introduced during the summer of 2021.

As of 12 January, players in third-party arcades should log in to gamble on the slots that they want to play. This ID verification system also allows players to exclude themselves from various terminals.

This company has been all over the news lately because of their withdrawal of a big number of slots all over Finland. They will have taken 8,000 offline by the end of the year.

They have also been forced to close down lots of arcades across the country due to COVID-19.

Senior Vice President of Channels and Sales, Jari Heino, stated: “The authorities have access to the best expertise available as regards the coronavirus pandemic, and we will naturally act in compliance with their instructions.”

Compulsory ID verification for land-based slots in Finland means that more action will be taken regarding compliance and age verification in the territory. Online operators and affiliates should keep up with the regulations in order to avoid any breaches.
