Veikkaus Makes Gambling Loss Restrictions Irreparable to Control Damages
Veikkaus – the Finnish government-owned monopolistic betting agency, has come up with interim online gambling loss limitations.
According to these new regulations, Finland’s Veikkaus’ players on the online platform will have a daily loss limit of maximum 500 euros, while originally the maximum daily number was 1000 euros.
Moreover, by the Finnish Minister of Interior – Maria Ohisalo’s order, starting from 18th June, a monthly limitation of 2000 euros will also be legislated.
The new measures, however, will also call for the users set their own daily limits, in the only condition of them being less than the official 500 daily and 2000 monthly limits.
The Minister of Interior added:
“The loss regulations are a proved way of not only cutting down gambling addiction and harm risks, but also combatting against overall wealth and debt problems all across the country.”
At first, the loss restrictions were thought to have a short-term nature, in regards to covid-related predictions of a possible rise in online gambling during the shutdowns. Nevertheless, the restrictions, since 2019, have been moved on several occasions, and now the latest date stands on 30th June.
This was not Veikkaus’ only measure in the direction of responsible gambling, as the group had developed an ethical strategy back in 2020, mainly related to the COVID-19 pandemic, when the company requested from Finland’s authorities to move the carrying out of the new regulations from 2023 to 2021.
