GambleAware has received £46.5m in donations in FY2022-23

In the one-year period before April 2023, GambleAware has received over 46 million pounds in donations.

The charity mentioned that over 90% of the total has been donated by the country’s top four operators, making up for a combined almost 43 million pounds. In comparison to the same period last year, the top companies have increased their donations, while the majority of all other firms that donated contributed under a thousand pounds. The median donation, meanwhile, was just 250 pounds.

Flutter Entertainment continued to lead the way in terms of the size of donations, as the firm contributed over 16 million pounds to the charity in the period. This was closely followed by Entain at over 15 million pounds, William Hill at 4.5 million pounds, and Bet365 at 2.3 million pounds.

Lastly, in its announcement, the organization mentioned that it welcomes the mandatory RET funding taxes proposed by the recently introduced gambling legislation white paper. However, it added that it calls for timely implementation of the levy in order to avoid a sharp decline in voluntary donations, and thus funding for charitable organizations, throughout the transition process.

“As GambleAware is the United Kingdom’s leading charitable organization for the gambling vertical, funding plays a vital role for us and the adequate execution of our various initiatives that aim to reduce gambling harms. We welcome the mandatory levy introduced by the government in the recent white paper, however, we hope that it can be implemented swiftly to not disrupt the pace of our progress.”

remarked the CEO of GambleAware, Zoe Osmond.
