KSA reports gambling market expansion in the Netherlands

The Kansspelautoriteit has recently published a market report for the country’s gambling industry, which has shown that it is growing at a steady rate.

The latest report is the fourth one of its kind published by the Dutch regulator ever since the country’s regulated gambling market launched back in 2021. It highlighted expansions in both the number of total gamblers and the combined revenue generated by the market’s firms.

In terms of the latter, the regulator has predicted a yearly growth trend of 13%15%. However, in January of 2023, the market generated 124 million Euros, which represents an over 37% increase from the 90 million Euro figure recorded in the same period of last year.

The regulated market’s total player numbers, on the other hand, are also growing with the total number of accounts being at 860 thousand. However, the number of active users every month is closer to 365 thousand. Additionally, the Kansspelautoriteit mentioned that players gamble with less money on average, betting 143 Euros per month between the August of 2022 and January 2023, in contrast to the 153 Euros gambled per month between the October of 2021 and July 2022.

The regulator also shared that younger players make up just over 20% of the total with 183 thousand accounts, although they on average have just over 2 accounts per person, while the majority of all players at about 57% have only one account.

Lastly, the KSA added that its mission of having at least 80% of all players enjoy the pastime with licensed operators has proven to be quite successful, as over 92% of all Dutch gamblers only gamble at regulated businesses. Additionally, 98% of all new gamblers choose the regulated market, further boosting the regulator’s achievement.
