Svenska Spel to fund research about gambling problems

Svenska Spel made the decision to fund research on gambling problem.

During the past decade the brand donated 60 million Swedish krona for different researches and is planning to give 42 million Swedish krona during the camping years.

With these funds the company’s independent Research Council and Anders C Håkansson, the professor of Lund University for the next 5 years.

It is known that 25 million Swedish krona will be given directly to the research and the other 8.5 million Swedish krona will be set aside to support the research every year.

“The Research Council was the core in the creation of a research area dedicated to gambling problems in Sweden. It is still not known how to deal with gambling problems and that’s why our work is right for both the business and the humanitarian perspective.”

commented P. Hofbauer, Svenska Spel’s president.

The Research Council was established 10 years ago for raising awareness about gambling addiction and finding methods to deal with them.

The Council consists of researchers and representatives, and operates without Svenska Spel.

Hofbauer added that with their research they are aiming to make early discoveries about gambling problems, and with new funds they can deepen their work.
